How To Find The Right Carpet Solutions For A Hotel

The understanding that not all carpets are the same is not always appreciated. In domestic homes, for example, it is easy to think that carpets are for underfoot comfort in most of the house, but not used in rooms where they would get wet, like the kitchen or bathroom. But there is more to it than that.

While the point about kitchens and bathrooms is true, even in a home there should be a distinction between areas where carpets need to be hard-wearing to deal with a lot of foot traffic, such as the stairs or hallway, places where the focus should be on maximum comfort, like the bedroom, and places that fall between these two poles, like the living room.

When it comes to any hotel carpet, these considerations become amplified, with additional factors to take into account, such as colour schemes and the potential contrast between hotel room design and more corporate areas, like the reception area, where they need to match the livery and colours of the company, especially if it is a chain with its colours and logo.

Consistency Or Novelty?

Some hotels may have a specific theme and focus on consistency; if you are a chain, you want your customers to be loyal and stay with you wherever they are travelling. But to ensure that means they need to be getting the same service, same standards and same quality of design and furnishings – including the carpet – wherever they go.

By contrast, some hotels may have some very individual characteristics that should be incorporated into the design. To give an example, plans are progressing for a hotel at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, which will overlook the playing area.

This is not a unique idea – such hotels already exist at Old Trafford and the Hampshire Bowl – but the hotel will have clear cricket themes and livery associating it with Warwickshire County Cricket Club, which owns and plays at the venue. This may be reflected in the carpets alongside the rest of the décor.

Ultra Soft And Ultra Good

However, appearance is not the only matter when it comes to hotel carpets. The fundamental principle of having the right carpets for the right rooms applies everywhere. The range of carpets we offer for the hospitality sector reflects this.

For some rooms, where people will sleep or relax, you will need soft but hard-wearing carpets. This is where makers like Balsan offer some great solutions.

For instance, the Balsan Louvre carpet tiles, which come in 500 x 500 mm tiles and a wide range of colour options, are soft and 8.3 mm thick, but also shiny for a striking visual appearance. This line also comes with a 15-year warranty, for added peace of mind.

Balsan also produces the Ultrasoft Carpet Planks, which are essentially the same product as the tiles apart from the dimensions, which measure 250 x 1000 mm. This means you can choose from tiles or planks according to the needs of each room in the hotel.

Made from Saxony construction and with 23db noise reduction built in – another important element for a hotel – it is made from 100 per cent nylon and has a five-year warranty.

Awesome Amtico

Other areas will need much more of a focus on durability, due to their heavy use. Hotel corridors, the reception area and the stairs are the most obvious examples.

Among the best carpets for areas like this are the Amtico Express Colour Anchor Tinker tiles, which measure 610 x 610 mm.

These are not designed for comfort, being only 6.4 mm thick, but they are geared up for intensive use, with a wear classification of 23,33. They also come with 25db noise reduction and a ten-year warranty. This is a clearance item, however, so we do have boxes available for anyone keen to bag a bargain… but you may need to be quick!

This product is made from woven loop nylon, which is both recycled and recyclable. Indeed, this is a common feature of our products that you can make the most of when it comes to blowing your hotel’s trumpet about its sustainability measures.

Burmatex Brilliance

Another supplier we stock is Burmatex, which offers products like the Arctic Carpet Plank, measuring 250 x 1000 mm. The design is described as being “inspired by the changing landscape of the Arctic region”, with “organic lines cutting through icy rock, cold water flowing down frozen mountains and glacial river rapids”.

Novel though the appearance is, it also has important practical characteristics. This carpet is graded at Class 33 for heavy commercial use, making it ideal for areas of high foot traffic. It is made from a 1/12th tufted gage loop and is 7mm thick, with its toughness being borne out by its 15-year warranty.

These and other makers offer further carpet products that could be ideal for the varied needs of different rooms in your hotel, ensuring that all your requirements are covered and your guests are highly satisfied with the floors they walk on.

CVT Direct offers carpet tiles from trusted and well-known brands including Balsan, Bolon, Burmatex, Desso, Gerflor, Tarkett, Heckmondwike and many others.
