The song “School’s out for summer” will be heartily sung later this month with plenty of joy by many children and, it is fair to say, even more by the teachers.
However, while the prospect of six weeks away from the classrooms and corridors may be a very happy prospect for some, there will be others involved with running schools and other educational facilities for whom this will offer an important window of opportunity for all kinds of maintenance work.
If that is your role, now may be the time when you are looking closely at the flooring around the school, assessing budgets for repairs and considering your options. If new flooring is required, you will be looking for something practical, safe, that lasts a long time and fits your budget. You will be delighted if it is also environmentally friendly.
Carpets Made For The Needs Of Schools
The good news is that we have flooring designed to meet all those needs, not least carpet tiles that will be very well suited to the heavy wear requirements of busy places like classrooms and the library.
We stock several brands designed for these heavy-duty requirements. For instance, there is the Amtico Express Colour Anchor Tinker carpets, which are equipped with Infinity modular high-performance backing, a vinyl composite designed for robust performance.
It comes in 609.6 x 609.6 mm square tiles, which are 6.4 mm thick in a patterned loop design. Most importantly, these have a 23,33 wear classification to stand the test of time, as well as 25db noise reduction to keep the sound down when scores of feet are tramping over it.
These tough carpets have a ten-year warranty and are made from recycled and recyclable material.
Amtico is just one of the manufacturers that make tough carpets suited for schools. Balsan is another, with several different products that would suit a school environment.
Balsan Brilliance
The Balsan Louvre Dalle carpet tiles, which measure 500 x 500 mm, come with a textured patina and a wide colour choice, including blue, green, yellow, red and various shades of brown and grey. This means you can find tiles that suit your school’s livery and wider colour scheme.
Made from 100 per cent recycled nylon, these tiles are 8.4 mm thick, featuring 27db of noise reduction as well as 2kV of antistatic resistance and a wear classification of 33. It comes with a warranty of 15 years.
Also in the Balsan range is the Pilote 3d Tramontane carpet. This also comes in a wide range of attractive, textured patterned colours in 6.5 mm thick tiles. Like the Louvre, it has a wear rating of 33, while there is 26 dB of noise reduction. The tiles come with a 15-year warranty and, once again, are made of 100 per cent recycled material.
Other Balsan range carpets include the Urbanist carpet tiles, which are 5.4 mm thick and come with a five-year warranty. They have a wear rating of 33 and 23 dB of noise reduction. Like other Balsan carpets, they are made entirely from recycled material.
The Beauty Of Burmatex
Burmatex is among the other great providers of carpets that suit school settings. The appropriately named Academy Carpet Tile, measuring 500 x 500 mm and 7.5 mm thick, is available in a wide range of different colours, from different green and orange tones to darker and more neutral colours.
It has a ‘heavy contract’ wear rating, an acoustic noise reduction factor of 19 and a warranty of 15 years.
Another Burmatex option is the Arctic carpet tile, which is also available in 500 x 500 mm tiles in a multilevel loop design and 7 mm thickness. It comes in a Class 33 (heavy commercial use) wear classification, a 25 dB castor chair rating and a warranty of ten years.
What these and other products in our carpet range offer is a range of choice based on just the characteristics that school carpets need. If you want a good colour choice, it is there. Keeping the noise down and withstanding loads of wear and tear is what these products are all about.
Moreover, they last for years, so it should be a while before you need to replace them. Not only do they include recycled material (in part or whole), but when they do reach the end of their working life, they can be recycled, which means your school can maintain a strong commitment to protecting the environment.
