Laminate Flooring: An Ideal Option For Family Homes

Having a baby doesn’t just change your lifestyle, it also means a transformation of your home. Everything has to be baby-friendly and baby-proof, so it can endure what kids throw at it, as well as pose no danger to them.

When considering your flooring design choices, you might want to consider installing laminate flooring that is affordable, easy to lay and easy to maintain.

Here are just some of the advantages of laminate flooring for busy families:

  • Durable

Durability is a must for any parent, as children can cause a lot of damage to furnishings without meaning to. Whether it’s spilling drinks, sticking play dough to the floor, playing with slime, scattering glitter or distributing biscuit crumbs all over the place, kids have a way of making a mess.

If you had a carpet instead, it would be impossible to keep it clean and undamaged after a while, whereas laminate is able to cope with heavy traffic, having items dropped on the floor, and muddy shoes.

It can even sustain scuffs from pet claws, and even after several years, does not often show signs of wear and tear.

  • Prevents stains

Laminate flooring is also moisture resistant, particularly if you pick one with a resin layer. This means any juice spillages, ice lolly drips, or potion play will not ruin your floor.

The non-porous material is able to deter absorption, so you can remove any evidence of the stain before it begins to set.

  • Easy to clean

Keeping the house clean when you have young children can be an endless job, but the good news is that laminated floors are low maintenance and easy to clean.

They simply need to be swept or vacuumed to remove the dust and debris, and then every so often, they could do with a mop to shift any muddy footprints or blemishes. A simple water and soap solution can do the job, so you don’t have to worry about your little one crawling around on the floor that has been cleaned with harsh chemicals.

  • Hypoallergenic

Parents with children who have allergies know how difficult it is to keep those allergens away, but laminate floors are hypoallergenic, which means they inhibit bacterial growth.

As there are no crevices or carpet fibres for the allergens, including dust, pollen or grass, to settle in, your kids are less likely to suffer.

They are naturally antimicrobial, and due to their smooth surface, they don’t accumulate dust. Therefore, if your child really suffers with their allergy symptoms, it is worth considering replacing your floor with laminate.

  • Cost-effective

Everyone knows that having children is expensive, but did you know that raising a child up to the age of 18 can cost £166,000 for a couple and as much as £220,000 for a lone parent

A family with three children can expect to spend £498,000 on their kids until they become adults, so anywhere they can save some money, they are sure to take it.

Laminate flooring is a good cost-saver, being a much cheaper alternative to hardwood. At the same time, its price doesn’t mean it is low quality, as it can look just as good as traditional wooden floors for a fraction of the cost.

  • Can be used with underfloor heating

Anyone who is worried that laminate flooring won’t be as warm as carpet will be relieved to hear that it is compatible with underfloor heating. It also has good insulation properties, so it won’t feel as cold underfoot as you might think.

If you are worried about your little one getting chilly or slipping on the smooth surface, you could always get rugs with rubber backing that will add some extra warmth to the room, while making sure your children are less likely to fall.

At the same time, if you get some foam underlay, your laminate flooring will still be comfortable and soft to walk on, while also being a far more practical choice than a carpet if you have young, messy children.

  • Looks great

Laminate floors have improved in quality a lot over the last few years, and now they look just as good as wood or stone floors. So just by getting a more practical, cheaper option, you certainly won’t be letting the aesthetics of your house down, as they still look very stylish and very expensive.
