Your Best Options For A Home Office Carpet

bedroom tiles

Home working was a minority pursuit before the pandemic, especially for white-collar workers, but the discovery of this method of operating during lockdowns may have changed the way we work forever.

It is true that some companies, with Barclays Bank being a recent example, have insisted on a ‘return to the office’, often citing productivity and collaboration issues, but even this tends to be more about hybrid working than a completely atavistic approach that would restore the old pattern of millions commuting to a 9-5 job five days a week.

Whether you work from home on certain days of the week or all of it, however, there is no doubt that this has required an adjustment at home. It may have some advantages for work-life balance, but it also brings challenges.

You will need an area set aside for working and with that comes a need for certain equipment, such as a desk and the right chair, but ideally, you will want to be able to repurpose this room when the house is crowded because you have visitors.

Why Finding The Right Carpet Matters

That also means you should think carefully about your home office carpet, an issue that can easily be neglected.

The carpet and flooring in your home, if chosen wisely, will vary from room to room. The focus will be more on durability for areas of high foot traffic, such as the hallway and stairs, while you may need a bit more comfort for the living room and larger emphasis on comfort in the bedroom.

If you have chosen home carpets wisely on this basis, you may find that this does not quite work for the room you have selected as a home office. Or, if you have built or adapted a garden room for this purpose, you will need to choose the right carpets for it.

Ideally, the carpet will offer a combination of robustness and attractiveness, so they can deal with having heavy furniture placed on them, a wheeled office chair rolling over them and a few coffee spills, while still being attractive enough for the room to be ‘homely’ and be adapted for other domestic uses.

Our Range Of Carpet Options

Our range of home office carpet tiles is especially suited for this dual purpose, with some great choices on offer.

Our Balsan Louvre Dalle tiles come in a range of colour options, including blue, red, green and yellow as well as more functional grey or brown shades. This means you have the option of matching these up with the carpet colours elsewhere in the home.

This product is often used in hotels, which when one thinks about it, are the ultimate example of a setting where business smartness and home comfort meet head-on. Among its particular qualities include anti-static and airborne noise resistance, with the 8.4 mm thickness making it particularly kind to your feet.

Colour And Comfort

If you want to go for brighter colours, one ideal option is the Balsan Pilote 3D Tramontane carpet tiles. These come in a variety of mottled two-tone 6.5 mm thick tiles that can be used in multiple colour combinations, enabling you to create an attractive, eye-catching floor that will stand out in any home, but performs superbly as a home office floor.

Among the combination of attributes that make it so good is the underfoot comfort it provides and the strong acoustic insulation it offers. Balsan also offers lower cost solution-dyed polypropylene carpet tiles, which offer a cost-effective 5.2 mm thick option for rooms that get low footfall levels. This may best suit a room used exclusively as a home office.

If, on the other hand, you want to tilt the balance towards comfort, then the Desso range, available as planks or in tiles, could be what you need. You can browse our collection easily online and choose samples to see prior to purchase, with all technical information also available on our product pages.

An alternative approach may be to use a different kind of flooring altogether for the office, such as the Quick-Step range of laminate planks. Nonetheless, if carpet is what you want, we have a great selection for you.

Apart from all the other benefits of working from home, it is also worth remembering that by not burning up petrol driving to work, you are saving on emissions.

Our flooring products are often made with recycled content and some are recyclable at end of life. You can view the technical details on the product pages, feel free to ask for details.  Working from home can be great – and also more sustainable.
